We love traveling to Andrea’s hometown, nestled in southern Ohio, where the Ohio and Muskingum rivers meet especially for a wedding. Marietta was the first settlement in the Northwest Territory in 1788. It’s rich in history is the perfect setting for Molly and Joe’s big day! Molly also grew up in Marietta as well, although they live in New York City now.
Molly and Joe wanted to blend both of their family’s wedding traditions. So on the first day we celebrated with a Korean Paebaek Wedding Ceremony at the Buckley House. This was our first Korean ceremony and it was so much fun! The Paebaek ceremony is an ancient Korean wedding tradition where the groom’s family offically accepts the bride into their family. One tradition was for Joe’s parents to toss dates and chestnuts into Molly’s traditional skirt. This is a symbol of the number of children they could have. Being immersed in, and learning about, while photographing different wedding traditions is always so awesome!
The following day we celebrated in the church Molly grew up in. Which is one of our all time favorite places to photograph. It’s the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption and it is one of the most beautiful churches we have ever seen. She wore a gorgeous Jenny Yoo wedding gown with a cathedral veil that fit the aesthetics of the Catholic Basilica. After the wedding we headed to The Adelphia Music Hall. This is where their reception was held. The Adelphia also has the cutest bikes that they rode up to the venue in! Molly also changed into a more sleek wedding dress for the reception. And after all the formalities we walked over to the train bridge where they danced and spun around with smoke bombs!
