Have you ever been to a place where your surroundings are so enormous that they instantly take your breath away? I can’t think of another way to describe the feeling that came over us as we arrived at Sequoia National Park for Lyndsay and Cassie’s elopement.
Being amongst the sequoias, you can’t help but feel tiny and humble in their presence. These massive trees have existed for thousands of years and I can’t help but wonder what they would say if they could talk. To be part of their story, even for a split second, is incredible. We’re thankful to have shared that moment with Lyndsay and Cassie. Photographing and videoing their story under the magical canopy of the sequoias was simply beautiful.
While we truly share in the excitement of all of our couples’ big days, their day was even more special because we were one of the few people to know that they were eloping. For months we kept their secret while getting more and more excited for their big day!
When the day finally arrived, we woke up at 4 a.m. to meet Cassie and Lyndsay. We headed to their airBNB in Three Rivers, about an hour outside the park. While the ladies were getting ready, we snapped pictures and video. Capturing them while they wrote their vows and exchanged sweet glances and nervous laughs. Once they were ready, everything was packed up and we all piled into the car to head up the mountain.
Little did we know as we drove up the winding roads that lead from the little mountain town to Sequoia, that the morning had a surprise in store. As the sun started peeking through the gigantic trees, a mama bear and her cubs came out of the brush! After our quick stop, we parked and met their officiant LJ, excited to see that we had the park all to ourselves.
Cassie’s vision for her perfect wedding was to be surrounded by the Sequoias, barefoot, with the love of her life standing next to her, and in this moment it was all falling into place. A cool morning chill was in the air as Cassie and Lyndsay got ready for one of the sweetest first looks we’ve ever shot. (Watch the video if you want to see for yourself!) The sun began to rise higher as they exchanged vows in the shadow of the sequoias known as The Parker Group. It was EPIC!
Joseph and I were honored to be witnesses and sign their wedding license (of course we teared up!) Haha! It’s crazy that after photographing hundreds of weddings, we still get emotional. We soaked up as much of the morning light as we could for photographs and then headed back down to Three Rivers to cut their cake… and take naps!
Once everyone had a little rest, we met back up to take some sunset photos with mountain views. As if the day could not get any better, we had the most gorgeous, golden sunset overlooking Sequoia.
We hope you enjoy the incredible images that came from their elopement in Sequoia as much as we do! If the pictures are not enough, be sure to watch the wedding video. Their vows are some of our favorites that we’ve ever heard and will surely make you cry!!
Cassie and Lyndsay – Thank you both for having us be a part of your day! WE LOVE YOUUUU!
